PICPA Council met on Dec. 14 and 15 in Hershey to review current projects and discuss PICPA’s direction.

CPA Statute
On Dec. 11,  Senate Bill 838 unanimously passed in the Pennsylvania Senate and was referred to the House Professional Licensure Committee. Council supports this legislation, which will enhance the mobility and portability of the CPA license across state lines. Council encourages members to participate in a January letter-writing campaign that will encourage members of the House Professional Licensure Committee to put the bill to vote in early spring.

Financial Literacy in High Schools
Council reviewed a report on a financial literacy program for high school students titled Mad About Money. This program, developed by National Theatre for Children, presents important financial literacy messages of pay yourself first, deductions, advertising messages, and opportunity costs. This program will be scheduled in 20 schools across the state from March through May and Emerging CPAs and PICPA leadership will be available to answer questions and conduct follow up financial literacy messages.

ClassPass on the Chapter Level
The ClassPass discount program for PICPA Foundation-sponsored CPE programs will be extended to all chapter-developed CPE programs beginning in the 2008-2009 fiscal year. Chapter leadership will incorporate this benefit into their seminar and conference pricing in the coming year. Council directed PICPA team to re-evaluate the financial impact of this change on Foundation revenues after the first year of implementation.

Budget
PICPA Council approved the 2008-2009 budget with no dues increase. To continue to support the scholarship fund and a pool of future CPAs, the budget again includes a matching scholarship contribution from contributions made to the scholarship fund and CPA-PAC during the membership dues billing.
