Students Decide the Fate of Leon Woods at Mock Trial

The Greater Philadelphia Chapter Cooperation with the Bar Committee held a Mock Trial on Sept. 26, 2007 at LaSalle University to investigate the case of a not-for-profit executive accused of theft and fraud.

In the case, PICPA member Leon LaRosa, played defendant Leon Woods, executive director of the fictional Philadelphia Golf Museum and Archives. Other participating PICPA members included Charles Elliott, Edwin Rosenthol, and John Mitchell. Jonathan Ziss, Esq. acted as Woods’ defense lawyer and Philadelphia Assistant District Attorney Drew Dedo represented the prosecution. Acclaimed Philadelphia Judge Abraham Gafni oversaw the proceedings. After details and evidence, ripped right from the headlines of an actual case, were presented, Woods was found guilty by the jury comprised of LaSalle University students.

The 2-hour CPE event was both exciting and educational. Additionally, students got a glimpse into the forensic accounting field. Following the trial, students and members discussed the program and mingled during the networking reception.
