Southwestern Chapter Shows Students a Different Side of Accounting

The Southwestern Chapter Relations with Schools and Colleges Committee hosted a 2 hour CPE and dinner program for members and area college students at Westmoreland County Community College on April 25.

Ed Wirth, a supervisory special agent for Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, spoke about the role of accounting in criminal investigations. Ed captivated the audience with his fascinating “on the job” stories and his passion for his career.  Students lined up at the end of the program to meet Ed and ask him questions. They also had the opportunity to network with chapter members.

Ed has worked for the Internal Revenue Service for 24 years, the last 16 years with Criminal Investigation. He was initially hired as a "co-op" student in his sophomore year at Duquesne where he received a BS in Accounting. Ed remained with the IRS upon graduation, first as a revenue agent before transferring to the special agent position.
