Government Relations

Action Alerts

When critical legislative votes are approaching, the PICPA may issue an Action Alert urging you to contact your legislators. The Action Alert will include a discussion of the urgency of the issue and a suggested course of action. When you receive one, you should follow these steps:

  • Respond within the time frame suggested - usually as soon as you can - using the suggested method of response.
  • Respond, regardless of the issue. Although it might not affect you personally, it undoubtedly affects the CPA profession.
  • Inform the PICPA Government Relations Team of your communication with your legislator and report any response you may receive.
  • Be aware that you may not be able to make direct contact with a legislator on short notice, so be sure to convey your message to an appropriate staff member.

Keep track of the legislator's action on the issue and send a follow-up letter to express your gratitude or disappointment.
