Nominations Being Accepted for Public Service Award

Recognize a Pennsylvania CPA for His or Her Community Service

PHILADELPHIA – Nominations are being sought for the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (PICPA) 2007 Distinguished Public Service Award.

Since 1981, PICPA has annually recognized a Pennsylvania certified public accountant (CPA) who is a community service leader, a passionate volunteer, and an advocate for worthwhile causes.

CPAs can be nominated for the 2007 PICPA Distinguished Public Service Award by visiting www.picpa.org/dpsa. The winner will be honored at the Institute’s Annual Meeting and Conference in June, featured in the Pennsylvania CPA Journal, and nominated for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) public service award. Deadline for nominations is Nov. 17.

Past winners include: Harry K. Sickler Jr., CPA, of Tyrone, who orchestrated an economic revival in his community by helping to save a factory and paper mill; Benjamin J. Matteo, CPA, of Hazleton, who has provided food to the poor since the Great Depression through an organization he helped found; and William G. Koch Sr., CPA, of Sinking Spring, a major proponent of the conservation of Berks County and co-founder of the Berks Jazz Fest. A brief synopsis of all of the winners and the 2007 nomination form can be found at www.picpa.org/dpsa.

Founded in 1897, the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants is a professional association of more than 19,000 CPAs who work in public accounting, industry, government, and education.
