North Huntingdon Resident to Lead Local Chapter of PICPA

Other Area CPAs to Serve as Officers of Chapter

PITTSBURGH – Scott W. Myers, a certified public accountant, was elected president of the Pittsburgh Chapter of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) for the 2007-2008 fiscal year.

Myers is a shareholder with Thompson & Myers PC in Monroeville, Pa. He was chair of PICPA’s Distinguished Lecturer Banquet Committee in 2002-2003 when James Earl Jones spoke at the Hilton Pittsburgh and Towers Gateway Center.

Myers, a graduate of Penn State University, is a deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Irwin, Pa.

Other 2007-2008 officers elected at PICPA’s Pittsburgh Chapter annual meeting include the following:
President-Elect – Jeffrey J. Spengler, CPA, is a shareholder and principal with McCrory & McDowell LLC in Pittsburgh. He is a board member of NAMI Southwestern PA -- an organization dedicated to helping those with mental illness -- and a trustee of North Allegheny Foundation. Spengler, a Pittsburgh resident, earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in taxation from Robert Morris University.
Vice President – Martin A. Fritz, CPA, is vice president and chief financial officer of Equitable Resources. He is vice president and a member of the board of the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council. Fritz, who resides in McMurray, Pa., also serves on the board of the United Way of Allegheny County. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, a juris doctorate from Penn State University, and a certificate in management from the University of Idaho.
Secretary – Deborah S. Scarpari, CPA, is a tax manager with Sisterson & Co. LLP in Pittsburgh. She is treasurer of the Economic Club of Pittsburgh and a graduate of Carlow University. Scarpari resides in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh.
Treasurer – Paul A. Mavrinac, CPA, is a manager with McCrory & McDowell LLC. He was the 2004 recipient of PICPA’s Pittsburgh Chapter Distinguished Service Award. Mavrinac, a Pittsburgh resident, earned a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, and an accounting certificate and master’s degree in taxation from Robert Morris University.
