Carlisle Resident Wins PICPA Public Service Award

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Raymond C. Keller, a certified public accountant from Carlisle, Pa., received the 2007 Distinguished Public Service Award from the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA).

Keller, who served as a member of the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial Commission and helped raise more than $8 million to construct the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial, was honored by PICPA at its Annual Business Meeting on June 28 in State College.

Keller, a World War II veteran who received the Purple Heart, Infantry Combat Badge, and the Bronze Star for his service, was appointed to the Veterans Commission in 1990 by then Pennsylvania Gov. Robert P. Casey. The memorial was dedicated on Oct. 7, 2001, at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville, Pa.

In addition to his work on the commission, Keller has been a leader among local community service organizations for decades. He received the George F. Hixson award in 1983 for his work with Kiwanis of Carlisle and Kiwanis International, helping to raise funds for children with mental retardation. Keller was also acknowledged with the Mr. Exchangite of the Year award in 1993 for his efforts with the Exchange Club of Harrisburg, an organization whose mission is to prevent child abuse. He also received accolades from the Carlisle YMCA for raising several thousand dollars for the development of soccer fields and for exemplary volunteer service.

Keller is a retired partner of Boyer & Ritter CPAs in Camp Hill, Pa.
