Wyomissing High School Student Wins Regional Essay Contest

WYOMISSING, Pa. – Jennifer Asare, a student at Wyomissing Area High School, won this year’s High School Essay Contest sponsored by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (PICPA) Reading Chapter.

Asare, who will begin her senior year this fall, won the top prize of $1,000 for her essay, “Work Life in the Year 2015.” Asare is a member of the National Honors Society, Model UN, and the French Club.

“I was overjoyed when I got the news,” Asare said. “It was definitely one of those special moments. I was very honored and also very grateful.”

Erin Weidman, a 2007 graduate of Wyomissing, earned $750 for her second-place essay and Justin Weidman of Cocalico High School won $500 for placing third. Both students wrote on the same topic as Asare.

Ann Fritz, a 2007 graduate of Wilson High School, finished fourth and won $250 with “Corporate Fraud Scandals: How Have They Influenced Your Opinion of the Accounting Profession?”

This annual contest awards students for their exemplary writing on how current influence the business community. More than 150 entries were received from several high schools in the Reading area.
