Recognize a Pennsylvania CPA for His or Her Community Service

Nominations Being Accepted for Public Service Award

PHILADELPHIA – Nominations are being sought for Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (PICPA) 2008 Distinguished Public Service Award. Deadline for nominations is Nov. 16.

Since 1981, PICPA has annually recognized a Pennsylvania certified public accountant (CPA) who is a community service leader, a passionate volunteer, and an advocate for worthwhile causes. This is PICPA’s top honor.

The winner is chosen by a panel of judges from across the state, and will be honored at the Institute’s annual meeting and conference in June, featured in the Pennsylvania CPA Journal, and nominated for American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ (AICPA) public service award. CPAs can be nominated for the 2008 PICPA Distinguished Public Service Award by visiting www.picpa.org/dpsa.

Past winners include: Raymond C. Keller, CPA, of Carlisle, who served on the Pennsylvania Veterans Commission and helped raise several million dollars to develop the Pennsylvania Veterans’ Memorial; Harry K. Sickler Jr., CPA, of Tyrone, who orchestrated an economic revival in his community; and Benjamin J. Matteo, CPA, of Hazleton, who has provided food to the poor since the Great Depression through an organization he helped found. A brief synopsis of past winners and the 2008 nomination form can be found at www.picpa.org/dpsa.
