Tax Season Public Service Announcements

Health Savings Accounts
Tax season is here and we can help. Here is a tax tip from the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs.  If you have a high-deductable health insurance policy, you may be able to pay some of your future health care costs by contributing to a Health Savings Account.  These accounts enable qualified individuals and their employees to contribute funds that can then be withdrawn tax free for qualified medical expenses. For this and other tax tips and resources, visit the Consumer page at www dot PICPA dot o-r-g.

Standard Deduction or Itemized Return?
Tax season is here and we can help.  Here is a tax tip from the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs. Taxpayers have two choices when claiming deductions on their return: claim the standard deduction amount or itemize their deductions.  The best approach depends on which saves you the most money.  Compare which standard deduction amount you qualify for based on your filing status to what you could claim based on your qualified deductable expenses. For this and other tax tips and resources, visit the Consumer page at www dot PICPA dot o-r-g.

Choosing the Right Filing Status
Tax season is here and we can help.  Here is a tax tip from the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs. Taxpayers may choose one of five tax-filing status options: single; married filing jointly; married filing separately; head of household; and qualifying widow or widower.  While your individual circumstances limit your filing status options, it is important to keep in mind that different filing statuses offer different benefits. For this and other tax tips and resources, visit the Consumer page at www dot PICPA dot o-r-g.

There are many tax-savvy steps you can take to limit the amount you pay in taxes.  Participating in your company 401k plan or contributing to an individual retirement account allows you to lower your taxable income now and make the most of your long-term nest egg.  You should also be sure to take all of the proper deductions. Military Tax Breaks
Tax season is here and we can help.  Here is a tax tip from the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs. If you or a loved one is in the military, be aware of special tax breaks available to soldiers.  Thanks to the Heroes Earned Retirement Opportunities Act, members of the military serving in combat zones can make contributions to a traditional or Roth IRA based on their tax-free combat pay.  For this and other tax tips and resources, visit the Consumer page at www dot PICPA dot o-r-g.
