Duane E. Davis, M.D., FACP, FACR, became president and chief executive
officer of Geisinger Health Plan, Geisinger Indemnity Insurance Company (GIIC)
and Geisinger Quality Options, Inc. (GQO), collectively referred to as Geisinger
Health Plans (the Health Plans), on May 21, 2012.
Geisinger Health Plans are one of Geisinger Health System’s core businesses
and have been a contributor to its success. The three companies combined have
approximately 460,000 members in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maine, New Jersey and
West Virginia. The Health Plans have more than $2 billion in annual revenue and
more than 1,300 employees. Geisinger Health Plan is a not-for-profit health
maintenance organization. Third party administration services are provided
through GHP’s affiliate, GIIC. PPO plans are offered through GQO.
Davis joined Geisinger Health System 1978 and has more than 30 years of
experience in health care and managed care management. Most recently, he served
as vice president, chief medical officer for the Health Plans, a position he
held since 2000. His career-long interest in clinical quality improvement,
clinical and financial health care redesign and value creation has included
participation at the local, state and national levels. He continues to practice
medicine in Geisinger Health System’s Department of Rheumatology.
Davis graduated from The Pennsylvania State University and completed his
residency at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He is
board certified in internal medicine and rheumatology.
A Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of
Rheumatology, Davis is a clinical professor of medicine at Thomas Jefferson
University–Jefferson Medical College. Davis chairs the Review Oversight
Committee (ROC) for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), and is
a member of the American College of Physician Executives and the National
Association of Managed Care Physicians. He is also a member and former chair of
the Chief Medical Officer’s Leadership Council Committee for the America’s
Health Insurance Plans (AHIP) on Quality Health Care.
