GERALD “Chip” CARNES, JR. MBA, CPA, CFF (ret), RIA
(ret),
Emeritus Professor 2020-2021
Following retirement from his active Investment Advisory practice
beginning in 2020, and his tenured University teaching position in the same
year, Chip has continued to research the investment markets seeking to identify
reliable financial analytics in order to help investors improve their investment decision
making.
After his graduation from Penn State and completion of his military
obligation many years ago, Chip came back home to PA and completed his MBA at
Gannon University, Erie, PA evening program. He had previously accepted an Industrial
Engineering position at a manufacturing division of Textron, Inc. located in
western PA. He left Textron
five years later to complete a career change at the encouragement of friends and
family, and especially a former military buddy who had since become a CPA. His background and
experience became valuable to his new employer, and helped him complete the
career move easily and pass the CPA exam quickly.
As Chip opened his own CPA practice he accepted a teaching position
at a local state owned University
to supplement his income. He
enjoyed the college environment and continued to teach until his recent
retirement. In his practice Chip became heavily
involved in Financial Planning which lead to his Investment Advisory
registration with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, and the PA
Securities Commission. Early in
this extension of his new career Chip’s engagements almost totally came from
referrals from his fellow CPA’s. In additional to Investment
Advisory service and financial planning Chip eventually provided Litigation
Support, and Expert Witness testimony in securities cases. This experience lead to Chip becoming an
NASD Arbitrator.
Chip is currently living in Cary, NC near his family, but maintains
his office and long time residence in Pennsylvania.
