We are reducing barriers and creating meaningful pathways for future CPAs.
Hello, I’m Jen Cryder, chief executive officer of the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs. I’m pleased to present the 2025-2026 Annual Report for the Pennsylvania CPA Foundation.
The accounting profession is transforming at a rapid pace. From technological innovation to evolving workforce expectations, this is a defining moment for our field. With the passage of Act 27, Pennsylvania has taken an important step toward expanding access to CPA licensure and reinforcing our commitment to a profession that is both rigorous and attainable.
The Pennsylvania CPA Foundation plays a critical role in that mission. Through scholarships, student programming, advocacy, and strategic partnerships, we are reducing barriers and creating meaningful pathways for future CPAs. Our focus remains clear: strengthen the talent pipeline and ensure the next generation is prepared, supported, and inspired to enter the profession.
This work is only possible because of the dedication of our members, donors, volunteers, and partners. Your engagement allows us to broaden our reach and deepen our impact across the Commonwealth.
Thank you for your continued support and for your commitment to the future of the CPA profession.
The Pennsylvania CPA Foundation inspires students to pursue careers in accounting and provides educational, motivational, and financial support to those working to attain the CPA credential. Through virtual and in-person events, advocacy efforts, and partnerships with leaders and stakeholders, we work tirelessly to improve the accounting pipeline and ensure the success of future CPAs.
The Pennsylvania CPA Foundation has had another exceptional year, and it has been a true honor to serve as chair of the board. I am especially excited as we enter a new chapter for the profession. Passage of Act 27 in 2025 has created greater access to CPA licensure, a significant achievement for aspiring CPAs across the commonwealth.
Getting Act 27 passed reflects the strength of our advocacy efforts and our shared commitment to strengthening the pipeline. We remain focused on expanding awareness of the accounting profession, supporting students as they explore career pathways, and reducing barriers to entry so that talented individuals can see themselves as future CPAs.
As opportunities expand, so must our impact. This is a pivotal moment to deepen our outreach, strengthen partnerships with educators and firms, and ensure students have the resources and guidance they need to successfully navigate the path to licensure and beyond.
None of this work would be possible without your support. Thank you for your continued commitment to our mission and for investing in the future of the profession!

Career Day events are designed to introduce high school students to the accounting profession by bringing them to college campuses. Career Days feature sessions led by PICPA members, interactive breakout discussions, and campus tours. Through these experiences, the Pennsylvania CPA Foundation has successfully connected with nearly 1,000 students.
Only 51% of students had a positive view of the accounting profession prior to a Career Day and 45% were neutral. After our Career Days, 85% of students reported a positive perception of accounting. Additionally, before the program, 30% of students said they were not considering a major in accounting and 43% said they were. After the program wrapped, only 14% remained a no and 57% of students said they were considering a major in accounting.
It showed me that accounting is the right program for me. I want my future to be in this major.
Convinced me to pursue a career in accounting.
It taught me accounting isn't as scary as people make it out to be, and inspired me to go into accounting.
In 2025, we continued expanding our exhibit hall events after the Accounting Career Day programs. We again hosted two sessions, one at Robert Morris University and one at Immaculata University. In Philadelphia, at Immaculata University, we welcomed participation from four additional schools: Montgomery County Community College, Community College of Philadelphia, Drexel University, and Delaware County Community College. In the Pittsburgh area, at Robert Morris University, we invited an additional community college to attend: Community College of Allegheny County. We welcomed five firms to join the exhibit hall as well: PwC, Forvis Mazaar, HBK, IMA, and BDO.
Thank you to our 2025 Career Day Hosts!

The Accounting Opportunities Experience is a month-long initiative in partnership with the AICPA that offers high schools an opportunity to host a PICPA member in their classrooms. Members are equipped with a slide deck and promotional items from the PICPA and AICPA to enhance their presentations. This program's objective is to encourage high school students in Pennsylvania to consider a career in accounting as they start making decisions about college and their major.
We're looking for speakers to inspire students and present to high school classes about their career experiences in accounting. Offer insight into your day-to-day responsibilities, encourage them to develop skills needed to succeed, and answer questions they may have about where a degree in accounting could take them. Fill out our form to be contacted for future speaking opportunities.
In its third year, our dual enrollment program in partnership with Outlier by Savvas again marked significant achievement. Eighty-four students from across the state engaged in the asynchronous, online "Intro to Accounting 1" 3-credit course offered through the University of Pittsburgh. Many participants lacked access to accounting coursework within their classrooms. This initiative has made a tangible impact on expanding opportunities for students interested in accounting. By directly addressing barriers to access, it helps nurture a robust talent pipeline for the accounting profession across the commonwealth.
I am given the opportunity to ask for help or rewatch a video if I don’t quite understand the current material. This has helped me achieve more learning through this course, as well as further my learning outside of the classroom... Overall, I think that this course does tremendously well preparing high school students for grasping the basics of accounting and what it’ll be like when they go onward for higher education.
I would definitely recommend the dual enrollment accounting class because it is challenging, practical, and prepares students for college and careers.
In the spring of 2026, the PICPA and the TGR Foundation partnered to bring students and young professionals an inside look at the many career paths in accounting and finance. Each session pairs real-world expertise with interactive activities, giving attendees the chance to experience what professionals in these fields do every day.
From scholarships and exam preparation resources to career-building opportunities, we’re equipping college students with the tools they need to stay on track on their journeys to becoming CPAs.
The goal of the Student Ambassador program is to increase awareness of the PICPA and the accounting profession on campuses throughout the commonwealth via peer-to-peer connections. This year, the requirements continued to meet the ever-changing needs of students and the profession, with an emphasis on a varied social media presence that promotes accounting as a career choice, the benefits of PICPA membership for students, and scholarship information.

With the accounting landscape changing ever so quickly with the increase in AI and outsourcing, accountants of today and the future need to know that we're not just accountants... The resources provided to me during my time as a student ambassador with the PICPA showed me how to grow my skills and my networking abilities. One piece of advice that I would tell any student graduating with an accounting degree is to always keep an open mind with every opportunity that comes your way.
My involvement with the PICPA has given me perspective on the rapid pace of change happening in the accounting profession. Whether it was providing resources to pass the newly updated CPA Exam, breaking down recent tax law changes in the Pennsylvania CPA Journal, or inviting me to a professional speaking opportunity, the PICPA has enabled me to feel confident starting my career.
Starting in 2023, a professional panel for college students was introduced following the high school Accounting Career Day at Penn State University. In 2025, the initiative expanded to include three Career Days, along with an additional session at Penn State. At Robert Morris University and Elizabethtown College, Jen Cryder led a session for college students that provided insights into Act 27, including the new pathway to licensure, CPA Exam changes, and the profession as a whole. At Immaculata University, students attended a panel featuring PICPA members working in public accounting, corporate finance, and government. Our additional event at Penn State had both Jen’s session and the professional panel. We engaged about 40 college students per campus, further strengthening our connections with the next generation of accounting professionals.
In partnership with the American Accounting Association and PwC, the PICPA participated in Philadelphia’s second annual two-year bridge symposium. This program provided accounting content, community, and professional resources for 70 two-year college students who identify as racially or ethnically diverse as they contemplate their education pathways and potential careers in the accounting profession.
Our scholarship program reached new heights in 2025, awarding $138,000 to 91 recipients. Interest continued to grow across nearly all categories, with applications increasing significantly and even doubling from the previous year.

I am truly honored and grateful to be selected as a recipient of the 2025 PICPA Access and Development Scholarship. Thank you for your generous support and for believing in students like me. This scholarship means more than just financial assistance; it's an encouragement that helps lighten the burden of funding my education and allows me to continue pursuing my goal of becoming a CPA with greater focus and determination. Your investment in future professionals like me not only helps us manage the costs of our education but also inspires us to give back and support others.
Thank you for the opportunity you provide to those who need financial assistance to become better individuals through higher education. These funds help me and my parents. They came to this country with a dream for a better life for their families, children, and themselves. These funds are aiding that dream, and I will remember this when I am out of my studies. Specifically, this scholarship will support my pursuit of a master's degree, which I hope will enable me to provide service to those in my community.

What has your career path looked like since graduation?
My career path definitely looks different than I thought it would in college. ... I thought I would work in public accounting, stick to one firm, and move up the ladder there in the "traditional" way. Instead, I've put in my time in public accounting and spent many solid years working my way up to tax manager. Now I work for a progressive, growing wealth management company, still doing tax work, but in a different way and loving it!
What has been one of your proudest career accomplishments so far?
By far, my proudest career accomplishment was earning my CPA credential. I've had many other proud moments thus far; however, this one will always be No. 1. That's how important it is and how much it means to be a CPA.
What do your career and personal goals look like today?
My professional goals have evolved and changed through the years. After getting my CPA, my goal was to become the best CPA I could be, be a sponge and soak up all the knowledge I could from managers, partners, and CPE, and to move up the public accounting ladder toward partner. As the years went on, that remained my goal, but I started to learn that I couldn't learn “everything.” Even if I worked as hard as I possibly could, I would work 24/7. I began to to strike a better work-life balance and to find what it was I truly enjoyed about my job and hone in on that. I've been blessed to be able to find that, and now I'm on to more goals of how I can continue to grow and be happy!

What has your career path looked like since graduation?
I started as a staff auditor at Maher Duessel at the end of July 2024.
What is something you wish you could tell your younger self?
Your accounting classes have given you a good background and foundation for your future jobs - don't worry about not knowing everything! Every day is a learning experience.
How do you see the accounting profession evolving?
The accounting profession (specifically public accounting) has seen a push for more of a work-life balance in recent years. I definitely see this continuing to be important to new college alumni.
As exhibitors at the annual PBEA conference, we connected with 150 high school educators.
As exhibitors at the annual PSCA conference, we connected with 250 high school counselors.
At the FBLA annual conference, 500+ students attended lectures given by PICPA volunteers and leadership, with 5,500 total students and educators in attendance.
At the annual AAA conference, we connected with 70 community college students.
Advocacy has never been more critical to the Pennsylvania CPA Foundation’s mission. We're opening more doors than ever for future CPAs by championing new pathways into the profession and elevating awareness of accounting careers.
In June 2025, Pennsylvania Act 27 of 2025 was signed into law by Gov. Josh Shapiro, modernizing CPA licensure requirements and expanding pathways into the profession. Passed unanimously by the legislature, the law introduces a new licensing track that allows candidates to earn a bachelor’s degree, pass the Uniform CPA Examination, and complete two years of relevant work experience.
The legislation also extends the exam completion window to 30 months and enables automatic mobility for out-of-state CPAs. Since its passage, hundreds of candidates have already pursued licensure through the new pathway.
This milestone reflects years of advocacy led by the PICPA and the continual efforts of the Pennsylvania CPA Foundation to strengthen the accounting pipeline and expand access to the profession.

Reimagine and strengthen the Schools and Colleges Committee to better align with the Foundation’s strategic goals. This includes clearly defining the committee’s purpose, structure, and priorities to enhance its effectiveness as a connector between educators, firms, and the profession. As part of this effort, we will deepen engagement with firm hiring leaders to ensure alignment with workforce needs.
Introduce a new Firm-to-Campus Engagement Initiative designed to help bridge the growing skills gap between recent graduates and first-year firm expectations. This program will position the Foundation as a connector between firms, educators, and students by facilitating structured collaboration around technical skills, technology proficiency, and early-career readiness. Through this initiative, we aim to expand student engagement and better prepare future CPAs for success.
Build on initial research to further develop and implement a long-term system for tracking students from high school through college and into the profession. This initiative will allow the Foundation to better measure program impact, identify trends in the talent pipeline, and increase conversion from student engagement to ongoing involvement in the profession.
As we look ahead, I'm confident in the direction of the Pennsylvania CPA Foundation and the role we can play in strengthening the future of the profession. Building on the momentum of the past year, we remain focused on deepening our impact and strengthening connections across the accounting talent pipeline.
We are focusing our efforts in three key areas:
First, we are strengthening engagement with educators and firm hiring leaders by establishing a more intentional network aligned with the Foundation's strategic priorities. By clarifying its purpose and fostering connections, we aim to enhance collaboration between academic partners and the profession.
Second, we are launching a new Firm-to-Campus Engagement Initiative designed to help bridge the growing skills gap between recent graduates and first-year firm expectations. Through structured collaboration between firms, educators, and students, this initiative will support the development of technical skills, technology proficiency, and early-career readiness.
And finally, we are advancing our Student-to-CPA tracking efforts. By continuing to build a system that follows students from high school through entry into the profession, we will gain deeper insights into the talent pipeline, measure program impact, and strengthen long-term engagement.
Thank you for your continued commitment to the Pennsylvania CPA Foundation. Together, these efforts position us to better support the next generation of CPAs and ensure the strength of the profession for years to come.
