Certificate Programs: A New Approach to Building Competence and Credibility

By Adam Batchelor, vice president – learning and development

Earlier this year, the PICPA became one of the first state CPA associations to begin offering AICPA certificate programs. This exciting partnership allows us to bring even more robust on-demand learning options to our members. Certificate programs cover a wide array of subject areas, and they offer participants a way to meaningfully increase their knowledge and earn CPE credit while working toward earning a digital badge.

These programs are all about innovation. From the information covered to the way it is delivered, the certificate programs are designed to bring you to the forefront of important and developing topics facing your career, your clients, or the companies you serve. Here are some of the topic areas where certificates are available:

  • SOC for Cybersecurity
  • Cybersecurity for Finance and Accounting Professionals
  • Not-for-Profit Certificates I and II
  • Personal Financial Planning: Investment Planning
  • Personal Financial Planning: Estate Planning
  • IFRS
  • COSO Enterprise Risk Management
  • COSO Internal Control

Example of a digital badgeWhether you are interested in leveraging cybersecurity expertise to deliver new value to your clients or employer, or attaining advanced not-for-profit credentials, certificates will grow your competence in areas that dramatically impact the profession and the constituents you serve. The ability to discuss and counsel others on the latest trends and requirements could make the difference in realizing your career goals.

As mentioned above, each certificate program provides the learner with a digital badge to help display your earned credibility. Digital badges provide the opportunity to position yourself as an expert on your correspondence (including email signatures) and in online communities such as LinkedIn. Prospective clients, employers, and colleagues will be able to see your commitment to the subject matter and your willingness to go well beyond simple compliance when it comes to CPE.
