Susan D. Diehl, the President of PenServ Plan Services, Inc., is a preeminent retirement plan and benefits expert. During her career, Susan has served on renowned committees at the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) including the Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt and Government Entities (“ACT”), where she contributed to the formation of the IRS’ 403(b) Liaison Group that provides support to employers and financial institutions dealing with 403(b) plans and brings issues involving these plans to the IRS, and the Information Reporting Program Advisory Council (“IRPAC”). In addition, Susan participated in various committees at the Department of Labor (“DOL”) including the ERISA Advisory Council. As an authority on retirement plans, Susan continues to testify before the IRS and DOL on retirement plan regulatory issues. Sue served as a Board member with the American Retirement Association (ARA) and a Past-President of the National Tax-deferred Savings Association (NTSA). She is also a member of The American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries (“ASPPA”). In addition, she divides her time as Chair of the NTSA Government Affairs Committee (“GAC”) and the Legislative Relations Committee at ASPPA. Susan also served on the editorial team of the 403(b) Advisor Magazine.

Troy joined Schneider Downs in 2011 and is currently responsible for managing the execution of information security and cybersecurity attestation engagements. As an information security professional
and auditor, he helps clients manage their security program within the context of their overall risk environment. Troy’s area of expertise include cybersecurity assessments (NIST Cybersecurity Framework and SOC for Cybersecurity), SOC 1 examinations, SOC 2 examinations, SOC 2 + examinations, Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance, HITRUST assessments, HIPAA assessments, ISO 27001 assessments and thirdparty risk management assessments. He has experience in a variety of industries including banking, cloud computing and software-as-a-service (SaaS), higher education, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing and not-for-profit sectors.

Troy works directly with the AICPA as a member of the CITP Credential Committee to develop and maintain qualification and exam requirements to help support the credential pathway and credential holder’s expertise in the field of information management and technology assurance.

Prior to joining Schneider Downs, Troy was a business intelligence consultant. As a business intelligence consultant he helped companies adopt and implement appropriate extract, transform and load (ETL) strategies in order to integrate data from multiple sources into one. Additionally, he performed data analysis to help companies make efficient business decisions to improve their bottom line.

Jill Gilbert helps community benefit organizations and government entities execute their missions and carry out their responsibilities with increased efficiency and effectiveness. Thanks to two decades of assurance and advisory experience, Jill understands the need to go beyond routine compliance to help her clients in the not-for-profit and public sectors address challenges like budgetary constraints, revenue fluctuations and increased demand for services.

A Partner in RKL’s Audit Services Group, Jill also specializes in auditing employee benefit plans, applying her deep knowledge of the rules that apply to traditional pension, defined contribution and health and welfare plans to help her clients avoid costly missteps. She takes a strategic view of plan administration to deliver customized recommendations for management improvements.
Jill blends her affinity for numbers and data with her interest in forging connections with clients and colleagues. Ben began his career in financial services in 1999, where he worked for 5 years in the practice that today is branded as JKJ Financial Services. Ben re-joined JKJ in 2013 to head the JKJ Retirement Services practice, and became a partner in the firm in 2014.

In leading JKJRS, Ben remains laser-focused on employer-sponsored retirement programs, with breadth of knowledge across multiple plan types. He leads the firm initiatives around plan design strategy, participant education, investment review analytics, vendor selection, cost benchmarking & fee negotiation, and ultimate account oversight & advocacy, operating as a fee-based co-fiduciary.
In the decade from 2003 through 2013, he held positions of ever increasing responsibility for a pair of Fortune 500 financial services firms. Most recently, prior to re-joining JKJ, he completed a successful & fulfilling tenure with The Principal Financial Group, where he served as Regional VP responsible for the oversight of all executive benefit & 409A nonqualified deferred compensation endeavors in the mid-Atlantic & northeastern regions.

Ben graduated from Swarthmore College with a B.S. in Engineering, and went on to complete his MBA at Villanova University. He has continued his professional education by earning his Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®), Charted Financial Consultant (ChFC), and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU). He lives in Wallingford with his wife & 2 daughters (ages 5 & 9).

Allison, who has been with the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) since 2003, works to elevate CPA practice quality through advocacy, outreach, and education. She currently administers PICPA’s Joint Ethics Enforcement Program with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), oversees the administration of the AICPA’s Peer Review Program for Pennsylvania firms, monitors emerging global trends in the accounting profession, and serves as the PICPA staff liaison for eight statewide committees: Peer Review, Professional Ethics, Accounting and Auditing Procedures, Forensic and Litigation Services, Business Valuation, Not-for-Profit, Employee Benefits Plans, and IT Assurance. Allison also is technical staff liaison for a number of working groups that reach out to regulatory agencies in Pennsylvania on behalf of the profession. She frequently shares her expertise by speaking at PICPA events, hosting webinars on key topics, teaching ethics training, writing for the CPA Now blog, writing articles for the Pennsylvania CPA Journal, and fielding technical inquiries.

Before joining the PICPA, Allison spent several years as a senior manager with a regional accounting firm and nine years at Deloitte & Touche LLP, where she worked in the assurance and advisory services group. Allison’s diverse client service experience has included many not-for-profit, health care, and world relief organizations, as well as small and large manufacturing, distribution, and service-oriented entities. She has also served as the designated employee benefits specialist.

Allison is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Mo., and holds an accounting equivalency from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. She spent four years in internal accounting positions, including the Department of Defense, while her husband served on active duty with the U.S. Army.

Allison is a member of the PICPA and AICPA. She volunteers for the children’s ministry at Washington Crossing United Methodist Church. She is a native of St. Louis, and is an avid runner.

Melissa B. Bob Lavenberg has more than thirty years of experience with the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) and related business advisory services. His expertise spans reporting, government compliance and assessment of tax implications for plans, including qualified retirement, health, welfare, and fringe benefit plans. As a National Assurance Partner for an international accounting firm, Bob focused on employee benefit plan (EBP) audit quality for his clients and the firm's 1,900+ plans. Bob is a past chair of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) EBP Audit Quality Center and the two annual AICPA National EBP Conferences. Bob was also an active member of the AICPA's EBP Expert Panel. Bob has written articles for professional journals, contributed to internal employee benefit plan audit trainings and is a frequent speaker on various technical issues for industry and professional organizations.

Donna is responsible for marketing, business development and directing team members’ education and training on EBPs. Lynne McMennamin is an Auditor in the Division of Accounting Services and a Senior Reporting Compliance Specialist in the Division of Reporting Compliance of the U.S. DOL, EBSA’s Office of the Chief Accountant.

Before joining the Department of Labor in 2013, Lynne worked in public accounting for over 20 years, including 10 years as a partner in an international accounting firm. Lynne served on the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Expert Panel from 2003 to 2007 and on the AICPA Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center Executive Committee from 2008 to 2011.

David A. Torrillo, CPA/ABV, CVA, is the managing member of Torrillo & Associates LLC, a local public accounting firm that specializes in the audits of employee benefit plans. Dave oversees the accounting, auditing, and valuation services for the firm. Formerly a senior manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Dave has nearly 25 years of diversified accounting, auditing, benefit plan, and financial reporting experience. Dave has also volunteered on several committees, boards, and associations. He has instructed courses and authored papers on several accounting topics, and also performs quality control reviews. Dave currently serves on the PICPA Employee Benefit Plan Committee as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Employee Benefit Plans Expert Panel. As a CVA and ABV, Dave also specializes in providing valuation services for financial reporting, including impairment analysis under generally accepted accounting principles and purchase price allocations. Dave’s expertise in accounting, auditing, and valuation services enables him to provide unique insights in the delivery of such services to his clients.

Dave received his bachelor of science degree in accounting with highest distinction and honors from Pennsylvania State University. He has been a CPA since 1994, and is licensed in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and New York. Dave has been a Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) since 2004, and was awarded the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) credential by the AICPA in 2006. He is a member of both the AICPA and PICPA, as well as the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts. In 2016, Dave received the Advanced Defined Benefit Plans and the Advanced Defined Contribution Plans Audit certificates from the AICPA.

JulieAnn Verrekia is the Quality Control Director for Torrillo and Associates, LLC, a Philadelphia area public accounting firm that provides assurance and valuation services specializing in audits of employee benefit plans. Julie has over twenty five years of experience in accounting and auditing, specializing in employee benefit plans. Julie also currently assists the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in the development and update of numerous employee benefit plan accounting and auditing publications and projects. She has authored numerous articles and instructed courses on employee benefit plan accounting and auditing topics. In 2016, she received the Advanced Defined Contribution Plan Certificate from the AICPA as a key developer of the certificate exam and associated courses.

Julie was appointed to the Employee Benefit Plans Committee of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in 2009. She has co-presented the Technical Update session since 2011 and served on the “Ask the Experts” Panel at the PICPA Employee Benefit Plans Conference.

Julie is a former Managing Director of the employee benefit plan practice in the Philadelphia office of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) LLP. Her responsibilities included serving Fortune 500 clients as well as major financial services firms. She also was responsible for employee benefit plan quality issues for the southeast region of PwC and was a key member of a team of national office employee benefit plan specialists who oversaw the development of practice aids and training for the entire firm. Julie also has experience with SSAE 18 engagements.

Julie received her Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, summa cum laude, from Widener University. She is a certified public accountant in the States of Pennsylvania and Florida and is a member of the PICPA and the AICPA.
