Cindy Bergvall, CPA
Director
Bee, Bergvall and Company PC

Cindy Bergvall is a director with the accounting and consulting firm of Bee, Bergvall, and Company, PC and a strategic consultant with the firm’s affiliate, the Catalyst Center for Nonprofit Management.  In addition to directing the firm’s audit and accounting staff, Cindy has provided consulting services to municipalities in the areas of GASB standard implementation; municipal payroll tax issues; capital planning and management; tax collection issues; and long term financial planning.

Cindy has spoken for the PICPA, GFOA, PSATS, PSAB and PA Municipal Managers Association.  Topics have included Using Technology More Efficiently, GASB #34 Implementation, Understanding the Audit Trail, Tax Collector Training, and Management Consulting Services.  She has also published articles in the Borough News, PA Township News, and Township Update.

Cindy currently serves as a Board Member for CB Cares Educational Foundation and the First Savings Charitable Foundation.  She is a member of the C12 Group; CB Drug Free Task Force; GFOA; PICPA Local Government Committee; and the PICPA Fiscal Responsibility Task Force.

Diane E. Edelstein, CPA

Ms. Edelstein graduated, with distinction, from George Mason University, Fairfax, VA in 1988 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. She has worked in non-profit and governmental auditing for over 20 years.  Diane serves as Single Audit specialist and is the designated audit partner responsible for quality controls required by her firm’s participation in the AICPA Governmental Audit Quality Center.

Diane was a member of the Executive Committee of the AICPA Governmental Audit Quality Center from 2007-2011 and is now a member of the Steering Committee for the AICPA NPO conference held each June in Washington DC. Diane has just joined the Practice Monitoring Task Force A-133 Subgroup of the AICPA Peer Review Board.

Diane has lectured for numerous organizations on the topics of Single Audit, and accounting and auditing issues for non-profits.
 
She is a member of the American and Pennsylvania Institutes of CPAs.

Michael F. Cade, CPA, CGMA

Michael is a consultant and executive coach focusing his efforts on the Not for Profit sector. He specializes in leadership and Board-level consulting on strategic planning and execution aimed at ensuring the fiscal sustainability of nonprofit organizations. He coaches nonprofit executives and Board members in the areas of navigating transitions, developing leadership skills and building decision frameworks.

Previously, Michael served as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for the Riverside Research Institute, where he gained an appreciation for the nonprofit sector and the dedicated individuals who work so hard to serve others. His prior experience also includes financial leadership roles in the defense industry and with several business units of GE Capital.

Michael is committed to developing current and future financial leaders and supporting the profession. He is active with the PICPA, serving on the PICPA Council, the audit committee, Not for Profit and Bylaws committees. He is column coordinator and writer for the Pennsylvania CPA Journal’s Government and Not for Profit Accounting section. He authors a nonprofit leadership blog (NFP Beyond the Numbers) and contributes to PICPA’s CPA Now blog, Ask a CPA and podcast series.

Michael earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Widener University and an MBA from LaSalle University. He holds a CPA license in Pennsylvania and the CGMA credential. He is a member of the PICPA, the AICPA: Not for Profit Section, as well as, several local and nationwide nonprofit organizations.

Michael serves as Board Chair of the Internship Institute and as Treasurer of Family and Community Service of Delaware County.

Allison M. Henry, CPA
Vice President, Professional & Technical Standards
PICPA

Allison is presently the Vice President - Professional & Technical Standards for Pennsylvania Institute of CPA’s (PICPA) where she is responsible for overseeing the administration of the AICPA’s Peer Review Program in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and the Virgin Islands. She also administers PICPA’s Joint Ethics Enforcement Program with the AICPA, and serves as the technical staff liaison to seven state-wide committees and two newly-created task forces; specifically, the Peer Review, Professional Ethics, Accounting and Auditing Procedures, Forensic and Litigation Services, Business Valuation, Not-for-Profit and Employee Benefit Plan Committees and the Healthcare Reform and Marcellus Shale Task Forces. In addition, she fields technical inquiries, writes columns for the CPA Journal and Pursuit publications, provides technical updates at PICPA chapter events, and assists in writing responses to technical exposure drafts.

Allison has been in the profession for about twenty years, including twelve years in public accounting and over eight years with PICPA. Her public accounting experience consists of several years as senior manager with a regional accounting firm and nine years at Deloitte & Touche, LLP, where she worked in their assurance and advisory services group. Her diverse client service experience includes many not-for-profit, healthcare, and world relief organizations, as well as small and large manufacturing, distribution, and other service-oriented entities. She has also served as the designated employee benefits specialist. Prior to her experience with Deloitte, she spent four years in internal accounting positions including the Department of Defense, while her husband was serving on active duty with the U.S. Army.

Allison is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis and holds an accounting equivalency from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is also a member of Washington Crossing United Methodist Church, where she serves on the financial accountability team, and volunteers for the children’s ministry. She is a native of St. Louis, Mo. and is an avid runner.

Richard A Cole
FASB Project Manager

Rick Cole is a Project Manager at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).  In that role, he provides oversight to projects involving not-for-profit organizations (NFPs), consults on other projects affecting NFPs (e.g., Leases), and participates in some of the FASB’s broader outreach activities.  He is the Project Manager on the FASB’s current Financial Statements of Not-for-Profit Entities project and also provides staff support for the FASB’s Not-for-Profit Advisory Committee.

Prior to joining the FASB, Mr. Cole was the Vice President and Controller at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, where he worked for over seven years, and before that was a senior manager with KPMG LLP, where he worked for over fourteen years and specialized in audits of higher education institutions and other NFPs.   Mr. Cole earned a BS and an MBA from Montclair State University.  He is a member of the AICPA and the New York State Society of CPAs.

Noel A. Fleming, JD

Noel is a founding partner of Conley Fleming LLP, where he focuses his practice on serving the legal needs of nonprofit organizations in the areas of corporate law and governance, charitable trusts, federal, state and local tax matters, fiduciary duties, charitable fundraising, and related matters.

He regularly acts as outside general counsel to a variety of nonprofit organizations, including publicly supported charities, private foundations, mental health organizations, social service providers, museums, educational institutions, and health care facilities. In this capacity, he advises these organizations on all manner of issues affecting nonprofit organizations including corporate formation and qualification for tax-exempt status, federal tax law compliance, nonprofit mergers and acquisitions, strategic alliances, corporate governance matters, charitable contribution issues, and unrelated business income tax questions.

Noel is active in the Pennsylvania nonprofit community, and is the immediate past chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association's charitable organizations committee. He has also been a course planner and presenter for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's Annual Nonprofit Institute. He writes and speaks frequently on legal matters related to the operation of nonprofit organizations, and has been recognized by his peers as a super lawyer in the field of nonprofit law. His articles have been published in the Temple Law Review, The Journal of Taxation, The Exempt Organizations Tax Review, and Taxation of Exempts.

When not helping his clients, Noel enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters. He also enjoys practicing martial arts, and has a 1st degree black belt ("Shodan") in judo!
