Jim specializes in senior living and healthcare finance, with extensive experience providing financing and advisory services for the acquisition, development, expansion, refinancing/recapitalization and corporate affiliation of senior living and healthcare services providers.

With more than 30 years of investment banking experience, he has completed more than 150 transactions totaling more $3.25 billion in tax-exempt and taxable debt financing under a range of structures and credit profiles, along with private and public equity financing and mergers and acquisitions advisory assignments, for not-for-profit and for-profit providers/companies.

Prior to joining HJ Sims in 2014, Jim spent eight years BB&T Capital Markets, eight years at Janney Montgomery Scott, and 11 years at Wheat First Butcher, as a Managing Director at each firm and all based in Center City Philadelphia.

Jim serves on the Board of Directors and Fiscal Oversight Committee of The Philadelphia Protestant Home, a not-for-profit senior living provider based in Philadelphia, and on the Investment Committee of Elwyn, a not-for-profit provider of services to individuals with developmental, physical, and emotional disabilities based in Media, PA. He is the Co-Founding Chairman of Run to Remember, a running team conducting fundraising and other activities in support of the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter.

Jim serves as a member of the CARF Financial Advisory Panel (FAP), representing HJ Sims, providing input on development of financial standards and strategic educational resources for the senior living sector.

Jim received his B.S. in Economics and M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of
Pennsylvania.

Andrew J. Majka
Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Majka is a Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer with Kaufman, Hall & Associates, and has been with the firm since June 1993. In his tenure with the firm, Mr. Majka has been very active in strategic, financial and capital planning, debt-related financial advisory, and merger/acquisition/divestiture engagements for a wide range of healthcare clients, including many multi-state healthcare systems, academic medical centers, stand-alone community providers, and large physician group practices. In particular, Mr. Majka has collaborated with numerous providers in the development and execution of best practices integrated strategic, financial, and capital planning within the context of strengthening the mission, preserving credit rating, and optimizing access to capital. Since 1993, Mr. Majka has been a financial advisor to over $18 billion in tax-exempt health care financings.

Mr. Majka is a frequent speaker on health care finance topics, and was presented twice with a Distinguished Speaker Award by the Health Care Financial Management Association in connection with the Annual National Institute. Additionally, Mr. Majka has been a recent speaker at various national and regional educational programs for the HFMA, VHA, and other health care professional organizations including the Governance Institute, the Leadership Institute, and the ACHE.

Mr. Majka has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a concentration in Finance. He received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors from the University of California-Davis.
