Illig Jones & Britton LLP
Mr.
Shamburg is a partner with MacDonald Illig where he is a member of the Business
Transactions, Trusts & Estate and Tax Practice groups. His practice
comprises a vast array of personal and business transactions, that can be broken
into five general practice areas: estate and trust planning and administration;
tax compliance and planning matters; Orphans' Court litigation; nonprofit
formation; and corporate formation and transactions.
Mr.
Shamburg's Estate and Trust practice consists of assisting individuals of all
walks of life with preparing simple and sophisticated Wills and Trusts, along
with General Durable Powers of Attorney and Advance Health Care Directives. He
is knowledgeable in the United States Estate, Gift and Generation-Skipping
Transfer Taxes, as well as Pennsylvania Inheritance Tax, which allows him to
draft documents that minimize taxes while at the same time transferring assets
in the manner desired by his clients. He also has experience drafting Trusts
that do not affect Pennsylvania Medicaid eligibility and Trusts that protect
assets from Pennsylvania Medicaid recovery. After a client's death, Mr. Shamburg
assists the Executor or Trustee with completing the necessary administration to
effectuate his client's goals.
At
times, Mr. Shamburg has represented beneficiaries of Estates and Trusts that
believe the fiduciary is not acting in the best interest of the beneficiaries.
While many of these situations are settled amicably prior to litigation, he has
experience in litigating these matters on behalf of his client. He has also
handled numerous guardianship matters on behalf of
clients.
In
addition to his Estate and Trust practice, Mr. Shamburg serves a wide variety of
business clients, both for-profit and non-profit. He has extensive experience in
business formation, corporate governance, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures,
executive compensation, equity financing, tax and succession planning. He has
assisted numerous non-profit organizations in obtaining recognition of
tax-exempt status with the Internal Revenue Service.
Mr.
Shamburg received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the
Pennsylvania State University, University Park Campus in 2005. In 2009, he
graduated cum laude from the University of Dayton School of
Law, where he was a member of the law review and volunteer income tax assistance
program.
