Peter Calcara has been a leading advocate in Pennsylvania's legislative and regulatory landscape for over three decades. Since joining the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in 1999, he has been at the forefront of the organization's government relations efforts, shaping policy and advancing the interests of the accounting profession. As PICPA's chief lobbyist, Peter crafts and executes impactful legislative strategies, actively engages with policymakers, and leads the organization's political advocacy efforts. His strategic leadership has been pivotal in achieving significant legislative victories that advance the profession's interests. Prior to his tenure at PICPPA, Peter was vice president of government and industry affairs for the Professional Insurance Agents Association of Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware, where he led advocacy efforts on behalf of the insurance industry. His career in public policy began in the Pennsylvania Senate, where he served as a legislative assistant from 1986-1991, gaining firsthand experience in the legislative process. Peter is a 1986 graduate of York College of Pennsylvania. He is a past president of the Pennsylvania Association for Government Relations (PAGR) and is a member of the ASAE and PaSAE. Peter lives in Mechanicsburg, PA., with his wife Nancy.
