IRS Ends TAP
The IRS announced it will end the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) in its current form on November 30, 2026, shifting to a new digital-first approach for public engagement.
TAP is a volunteer program, running since 2002, where everyday taxpayers from all 50 states, DC, Puerto Rico, and abroad share feedback to help the IRS fix confusing forms, notices, and processes. The IRS says it's moving toward a "digital-first" approach and plans to replace TAP with a broader, more tech-based way for the public (taxpayers, tax pros, and advocates) to share input directly. More details on what that new system looks like are coming later.
Until the shutdown, TAP staff will keep helping members finish their remaining work, including publishing this year's TAP Annual Report.
