Tax season is in full swing after a delayed start, and it certainly has not been helped by all the polar vortex-crazy winter weather we have experienced this year. There is hope as spring approaches that the weather will begin to warm and that busy season will settle down as it races toward conclusion.
If you are in need of a brief mental break, why not turn your thoughts to the PICPA Annual Convention
in June. We will be returning to the beautiful Grand Floridian Hotel in Orlando from June 22-26. At a very attractive room rate of $205, PICPA members and their guests have already reserved more than 100 guest rooms per night. We will also be joined this year by members from the New Jersey Society of CPAs, increasing the networking value of this event.
Why the high level of interest? Because the Annual Convention program provides opportunities for all. Outstanding CPE sessions led by AICPA chair-elect, Tommye Barie, along with PICPA’s own Bill Schalleur, Eric Wallace, and Matt Melinson. Also, there are the social events
that incorporate the Disney magic. We have exclusive after-hours access to Animal Kingdom for our welcome dinner and reception, a private breakfast with Mickey and Minnie, and front-row seats and dessert during Epcot’s nightly Illuminations fireworks and laser show. We will wind-down the convention with a beachfront barbeque – guaranteed fun for both the younger and older attendees.
In addition to all of the area’s attractions, PICPA attendees will have access to discounted park tickets as well as the opportunity for a behind-the-magic tour of the Magic Kingdom or the chance to play Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course, a regular stop on the PGA Tour.
If you are unable to attend the convention this year, consider another post-busy season networking event – your local chapter
annual meeting. Chapters will utilize many different types of venues to recognize accomplishments, install new leadership, and honor award winners. Last year’s attendance was at an all-time high, and based on the schedule this year, we expect a new record attendance.
OK, your mental break is over. Hopefully you will add these events to your calendar before getting back to work. For those members in busy season, may the rest of your journey toward April 15 be smooth!
