The Pennsylvania CPA Journal Editorial Board held its annual content meeting in late spring. The primary purpose of the meeting is to share ideas and come up with a consensus for the feature articles for the 2021-2022 year. As usual, the board members’ contributions were thought-provoking and plentiful. As a result, our next four issues will include a collection of articles that get our members thinking about the future of the CPA profession.
With the wildfire spread of the coronavirus pandemic last year, businesses were devastated and employees were forced to work from home. The fall Pennsylvania CPA Journal, which will be released in September 2021, will have features addressing both these issues: business interruption claims and COVID-19 as well as preparing for a return to the office after more than a year away. Also on the docket for this issue is a look at cryptocurrency issues and ethics considerations for information technology.
The winter 2022 issue will take a look at what it means to be a CPA in an increasingly technological environment, as well as the skills aspiring accounting professionals must have simply to pass the CPA Exam. We also will include features on corporate management discussion and analysis and an examination of the state and local tax nexus and compliance environment in Pennsylvania.
Matters of pressing societal and national importance will be explored in the spring 2022 Pennsylvania CPA Journal. We have scheduled features on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the accounting profession, as well as the domestic and international tax impacts of the Biden administration’s policies. The continually progressing technological landscape will also be addressed with a piece on data visualization.

It’s kind of like stepping into a time machine, and no one wants time flying that fast. So, I’ll keep this brief: Our summer 2022 issue (released in June 2022) will offer features on social entrepreneurship and responsibility, the impact of inflation, and the use of Python/machine learning in accounting and finance.
