The pipeline of qualified candidates entering the CPA profession is running dangerously low.
A dearth of incoming talent creates real challenges, and the topic is dominating stakeholder conversations nationwide. While the profession is focused on solutions we can control to alleviate the pressure, we must also address several prominent socioeconomic factors, including education requirements, perceptions of the profession, and others covered in this report.
Combined, these factors add up to a difficult reality: the profession cannot replace CPAs exiting the marketplace on a one-to-one basis. The profession, instead, must focus on building a data-informed, long-term, sustainable human capital strategy.
